Mike Johnston, Democratic candidate for Colorado governor, pushed his yearly fundraising total to more than $1.25 million in the third quarter, and his campaign now has more cash on hand at this stage of the race than any non-incumbent Democratic candidate in Colorado history.

In the period from July 1 to Sept. 30, Johnston raised $323,708, the third consecutive quarter his fundraising exceeded $300,000 since he entered the race in January. The $632,859 Johnston raised in the first quarter alone continues to exceed the amount raised from donors by his Democratic rivals in any quarter to date.

“The money we received from these generous supporters will fuel a grassroots organization that will carry us to victory.” Johnston said. “But more important than the dollar figure is the number of donations, which remains strong, and shows deep support among the grassroots, and we did this without raising one dollar of special interest or PAC money.”

Johnston’s funds came from 1,568 donors, the third consecutive quarter the number of donors to the campaign exceeded 1,400. The campaign has now received nearly 6,000 donations from 4,576 individuals, affirming the campaign’s broad grassroots appeal.

The campaign finished the quarter with $724,509 in cash on hand, far exceeding the $495,111 former Gov. Bill Ritter had after his 3rd quarter of fundraising in 2005 before he won election the next year.

“Our historic levels of support continue to prove that people want a different kind of politics with a governor who has the courage to cross the divide, the humility to listen and the conviction to act,” Johnston said.
