Expanding Health Care Access & Bringing Down Costs
In the state Senate, Mike supported the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, which helped expand health insurance access to thousands of Coloradans in the first year. He has vocally fought efforts by Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Cory Gardner to gut the health care law and take health care from hundreds of thousands of Coloradans – including the nearly 800,000 Coloradans with pre-existing conditions, while raising health care costs for others.
Mike believes that health care is a right. That’s why he will work to protect and expand Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, by providing Medicare to all who want it – creating a public option, so anyone can buy into Medicare at an affordable price, while allowing those who like their private plans keep them.
Mike will fight to preserve protections for those with pre-existing conditions. No one should be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition like asthma or cancer, yet Cory Gardner voted to gut these protections for nearly 800,000 Coloradans with pre-existing conditions.
Mike is also committed to bringing down prescription drug costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and allowing the reimportation of generic drugs from Canada.
Mike will also fight for greater pricing transparency by requiring drug companies to publicly justify large price increases, in writing, to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
